Morocco contract
China Railway Group Ltd, Asia's biggest construction company, won a $257 million contract to build two highways in Morocco. The projects will take 30 months to complete, the company said in a statement, without saying when work will begin.
Loans cap
China Construction Bank, the nation's second largest, will cap new lending this year at 350 billion yuan, according to Chief Risk Officer Zhu Xiaohuang. The Beijing-based bank made 102.8 billion yuan of loans in the first two months, 14.1 billion yuan less than the year-earlier period.
Shell deal
Royal Dutch Shell yesterday said it licensed its petrochemical technology to China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). Shell Global Solutions International signed an agreement with PetroChina International Co Ltd and PetroChina Sichuan Petrochemical Co Ltd, two subsidiaries under CNPC, for the application of Shell's ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol process in a new petrochemical plant near Chengdu, Sichuan province.
R&D collaboration
French energy company Areva's power transmission and distribution division signed an R&D deal with Xi'an Jiaotong University and Beijing Jiaotong University.
The cooperation aims to develop new technology in the automation of high voltage direct current and alternating current power systems.
Training center
BMW's largest training center in Asia held its groundbreaking ceremony yesterday in Shanghai's Jiading district. The 10,000-sq-m center will have the capacity to train over 20,000 of its staff members and distributors by the end of 2008.
Continental website
Continental Airlines will launch its Chinese website on April 1 to attract more local passengers. The website will offer functions such as online ticket booking, online check-ins and seat selection by mid-2008. Continental has been one of the most active US airlines promoting e-services in China.
Furniture fair
The spring session of the China International Furniture Fair opened yesterday in Guangzhou. More than 2,500 exhibitors are seeking domestic and overseas business opportunities on home and office furniture at the fair, which will run until March 30.
The fair was organized by a number of groups, including the 2008 China (Guangzhou) International Ceramics Exhibition and China Foreign Trade Center (Group).
Food, wine show
The China National Food, Wine and Spirits Fair will be held in the Sichuan provincial capital Chengdu from March 21 to 23. The fair is sponsored by the China National Sugar and Wines Group Corp and Chengdu municipal government. With exhibition areas covering 115,000 sq m, the fair has drawn more than 3,000 firms including from the US, Italy, Sweden and France, according to Deng Gongli, deputy secretary-general of the Chengdu municipal government.
Coal to chemicals
China Datang Corp plans to invest 16 billion yuan in a coal-to-chemicals project in northwestern Shaanxi province, the Shanghai Securities News reported. The project will convert coal into methanol that will then be converted into olefins, used in the production of nylons and plastics.
Shipbuilder sales
China State Shipbuilding Co, the country's biggest shipbuilder, said 2008 sales may rise 36 percent on surging global demand for vessels and diesel engines.
Sales could rise to 24.4 billion yuan, up from 17.9 billion yuan last year, the Shanghai-based company said in a statement.
