China’s First Contribution to WTO to Support Aid for Trade

2008-02-29 15:41  MOFCOM

According to the news released by MOFCOM, with the aim of responding to relevant WTO proposals, on February 25, the Chinese government announced to contribute US$200 thousand to the activity of Aid for Trade of WTO. The said contribution shall be used to enhance the capacity of developing countries, the least developed countries in particular, in participating in international trade. Being a developing country itself, China has experienced the similar difficulties confronting the rest of the developing countries in economic development, and is willing to provide as much assistance as it can in this regard.

The contribution indicates that China not only supports the economic development of developing countries through bilateral aid, but also actively participates in multilateral aid made by international community, aims at providing technical assistance and strengthening the capacity building of developing countries, and strive to improve the capacity for independent development of other developing countries. This action also embodies China’s consistent position on enhancing multilateral trading system.
